Project Delivery

The project will bring significant benefits to the local area:

Improved accessibility to the southern part of East Kilbride, an area with both existing and proposed new industrial, business and residential land uses.

  • Improved infrastructure provision for direct access to employment areas in southern East Kilbride, minimising traffic impacts on residential areas.
  • Enhanced access to buses and for cyclists and pedestrians, by upgrading the capacity and quality of the road network.
  • Improved public transport reliability in the area by removing congestion and through traffic from existing routes.
  • Reduced journey times and improve journey time reliability.
  • Reduced congestion at peak times with associated carbon emission reduction.
  • Employment for local people.
  • Utilisation of local suppliers and business.

Key characteristics of the final Design include:

  • Improved accessibility to the southern part of East Kilbride, an area with both existing and proposed new industrial, business and residential land uses.
  • A footway 2m wide west side and 3m wide cycle route east side along Strathaven Road.
  • Approximately 650m of proposed cycle route between Auldhouse Road and Langlands West Roundabout. 
  • One new roundabout at the Calderglen Country Park exit, which also provides a new access to the New Farm restaurant.
  • Restructuring of five existing roundabouts.
  • Two new pedestrian crossings.
  • Seven bus laybys.
  • Four SUDs detention basins/ponds.
  • Two areas with new retaining structures.

Routes

The project is being delivered by Wills Bros, who were identified as the preferred bidder for the Greenhills Road/A726 Strathaven Road Corridor Improvements.
